Conservation Projects

Edenderry Lough

The highly successful ERGC project came to an end in September 2020.

Funded by the Blackwater Community Incentive Scheme, works included improving access to Edenderry Lough, allowing local community and club members of all ages and abilities safe access to use the site and its amenities, and to learn about protecting the local environment and improving water quality.

The project also funded a range of equipment to help the group with their schools education and community engagement programmes, a storage container and an interpretive panel showing views of the Lough and its wonderful wildlife.

Edenderry lough and surrounding river system form part of the Blackwater River system, which runs mainly through County Armagh and County Tyrone. It also forms part of the border between the Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The lough is positioned close to the old Ulster Canal which ran from 1841 to 1931 and is now being partially repaired and repurposed as a tourist attraction.
